Nothing to Blog

Actually, today i dont hav anything to blog. But, still, i just want to keep up my blogging momentum going, so that i wont lose any of my energies of blogging.

Yesterday, I did not hav any idea whatsoever to go to my boss's home...remember, the colleague who came frm India day b4 yesterday ( who brought in the laddu ), he wanted to go to his home & meet my boss's family. So, we both went there and had a really nice time.

I was talking like hell yesterday..... did not leave out any topics.Had discussed from Cricket to Spirituality and from Movies to Pav Bhaji.... ooops.. yes... Pav Bhaji... I had that after quite a long time....I remember i had that in an India Club function here in jakarta months ago...But, this home-made Pav Bhaji was jus like wat my poor soul requires...;-)

My boss's wife is a kind woman but, I showed no mercy to the Pav Bhaji She served me..I made it look like i was hungry for 6 months.... And had already had 8 plates of Pav Bhaji and wanting more... but, stopped only to know that everybody else had finished with their dinner...And, I am sure, she must hav felt, after seeing how i had had the food, she should hav invited me for a proper dinner.. and its going to happen no sooner than tommorow.. We are having a Bhajan session in the same "Pav Bhaji" Home and a Delicious Dinner is at stake.Though, it may sound like i am going only for the dinner, well, as it goes without saying, its also a part of the reason....

Thirupathi Ezhumalai Venkatesa

Whenever i say Thirupathi, my heart returns me with the prasadam "laddu".Since my family's wat we call--kula deivam--Family god is Thirupathi Venkatesa Perumal,i hav had the privilege of visiting the temple quite a lot of times.

Yesterday, one of my friends or rather colleagues who had returned from India brought in the prasadam. To all of our Surprise, the laddu was almost bowling ball sized one.I was really surprised to have such a laddu after long long time.Because, these days, the laddu is only a cricket ball sized one-- may be a kind of cost-control from the authorities of TTD.But, this one was pretty different.

When i enquired about it, i got the truth. My friend had actually done with the Kalyana Utsavam there.Thats why he cud get such a big laddu and he had got over 10 laddus.

And there was this Special prasadam which wudnt be given to normal darshans--the Vada.It was like a dosai-sized one.and it tasted spicy and real strong.I remember, i hav had such a vada very very long back.

Last time, when i was in India, I had tried to hav Perumal's Darshan..but my effort had been in vain.I got struck in the Crowd which was there in thirumala during the Ramzan & Diwali period. They said, it was only possible to hav darshan only after 3-4 days.To hell with my tight schedule back home that time, I had to be content with the "Gopura Darshan".

I then realised, the truth, as they say, is It wasnt Our Wish to Darshan him, but its LORD PERUMAL's wish to give darshan to his Devotees.. So, i am waiting for my turn.......

Rendezvous with my Inner-Self

Every now & then, i do get to feel that i am spking to somebody who is not visible to anyone, but to me.He is not a stranger, either. He is my own-self.With whom, i hav spent all these years, who has always stood by his own way of judgement not leaving me with too many options to choose to.But, i hav always been pretty happy that my own-self seldom lets me down. Thanks to my belief in my own-self, that i often able to deal with any kind of issues with my hands down.

When i feel down & out, my own-self conscience guides me the route to the way which probably is the perfect way.Even Before, i feel for anything ( sad or happy ) my inner-self starts feel about it and forces me how to react... Jus imagine if i dont follow my own-self, wat will happen. I will end up crying for my friend's newly born kid or wud be the happiest person to feel that another friend's dad expired...Both are extremities of Madness or let me put it as, Ignorance of One's own-Self.

When i make a Rendezvous with my own-self, Not surprisingly, i find that its smarter and way ahead with its far-seeing and abilities to adopt to different stages of life. For what, i am still trying to be like one, its already like one.Thats where it often defeats me, quite comfortably.

I sometimes feel like i am only the last person on earth to hav to speak with one's own-self.But, it warns me of such an attitude.Thats how I feel pride on my own-self.

  • When i cry it wipes of my tears explaning the tears wont erase the actual reason for my sadness.
  • When i smile it becomes happy and smiles back at me.
  • When i am jubilant about some victory, it says "Congrats, matey.Jus dont be a fool to praise urself for the past glory... life moves on, dude"
  • When i am sleeping it never sleeps.
  • When i wake up it was already there before me and gives me the Rejuvenation for the whole day
  • When i am tired... Own-self is the secret of my energy.
  • When i realise I made a mistake my own-self says," No probs.U dint do it deliberately. But, try not to do it again.."
  • When i started this blog it said "Go ahead. After all, ur writing about ur own self" ;-)

This RENDEZVOUS continues on and on and on....

Vettayadu Vilayadu -- Kamal's New Venture:

"Hunt & Play" as it goes in English,Vettayadu Vilayadu, is the next venture from the Padmashri KamalHaasan.I've wondered a lotta times during the past, frm where this 50+ aged Actor gets all his energies & ideas. Its simply very simple. He is committed to his work & he has got lot of passion for his work.He Breathes, eats, drinks, lives Cinema.

I'm yet to see his newly released "Mumbai Express".But, one gets the impression that any movie which gets released during the time when the Superstar's movie is released, can only play a second-fiddle, no matter wat special it has in it. M.E is no different.

I hav always admired Rajni's Styles and Kamal's Acting. So, both of them are jus the same for me as far as their commitment to their profession is concerned. But, sadly many movies of Kamalhassan had not got the required & deserved response amongst the audience .Take for eg., Mahanadhi - which thus far is the best movie i hav ever seen about the children being taken and being made to prostitute, and Kamal had done excellently as the victim's dad in that movie. And, Kurudhipunal, Anbe Sivam, hey Ram and the list is endless.

I sincerely hope that this New Venture of Kamal gets the deserved Response frm the Audience and wish his new movie all the success..

Sun, Sun.... Go Away !!!

It was one of the most Sunny-damn sunny days in Jakarta yesterday. The Worst part was i was sweating it out in the hot sun for about 4 hrs.Ask me wat? its Cricket Match, guys. Boy, it was sunny like hell.... It started well, though. It wasnt that hot when we batted. But, when we bowled, it was very tough. Also, for the fact that, yesterday we were short of bowlers, we were suffering.

The most hurting thing is, I was, though born in southern Tamilnadu, was brought up in Chennai, which is most famous for its Heat Atmosphere. And, now here, its not any different. Its even worse here. The fact that i cud handle the heat jus becos i had the experience of Chennai's heat was one aspect.. the other being i was frustrated with the heat of this tropical island's heat factor.... uffff...

Hardly, hav i ever felt the chill in here in Jkt.But, hav travelled a lotta hillstations in & around Jakarta.. and believe me, they are as cool as any other cooler places.

But, if it rains here in jakarta. it'll not stop for hrs.I hav seen some rains which lasted for 2 days. So, here it may rain & shine anytime.. God knows...

So, its apt to say that "Sun, Sun.. Go Away.. Dont come again another day"

Down Memory Lane

Memories jus refuse to get erased... its simply true as far as the cricket passion in me in concerned.. Some Battles are still fresh as an apple kept in the freezer. It tastes jus the same as it was when it was kept inside...
This very day, sevens years ago, it was a very special moment for Indian Cricket.Especially its very special with Sachin (6+4)Dulkar.It certainly was.

It was the day of the Final of the Coca-cola Cup Cricket Tournament between Ind and Aus.India were flying high simply for the fact that Sachin was in his peak of his form.During those days, there was this sorepoint that India was repeatedly happy to be depending on Solely that one man,SACHIN TENDULKAR.And, he repeatedly not tired of pushing us ahead against even the strongest of the opponents.

It was such a situation that we had to defeat the aussies to enter the finals or to lose not more than 30 runs to throw the NZ out of the Final. And, Sachin did justice to his Popularity by scoring briskily a 143 which he, even now rates as his best hundred in ODIs.

And, in the Final on this very day, that day, Aussie won the toss and elected to bat and scored a commendable 272.But, With sachin on song, we might hav chased 372 as well.Sachin beginned with his usual flurry of strokes and soon India was on its way to the victory target quite easily in the end.

Wat made that knock special was ....

(1) it was his BIRTHDAY which was co-memorated with a century and his Man of the match & Man of the Tournament Awards.
(2) He made the Aussie doubt about their abilities which normally wasnt the case.Eg., Shane Warne used to get nightmares about Sachin's Sixes & Boundaries.
(3) Steve Waugh, a tough cricketer himself, felt Great about Sachin's batting to turn the match and he wondered if he cud bat like this, Worldcup 1999 wud b theirs.( but, eventually, Aussiemen won the worldcup '99)

This day had proved to be a Lucky day for Sachin and the Team-India.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO U SACHU.....

(3) And, I will never ever try to blog in Tamizh-Fully in Tamizh...

Madras Tamizh

This was actually one of my friends sent me.. I found it a worthy collection of Madras Tamizh Words to punctuate in my Blogs.I am sure, my friend wont mind this and he wud appreciate this, if he sees my blog...

Madras -kkaaaran endru sollada !! Thalai nimirndhu nillada !!

The aesthetic quality of Madras Tamil comes from the fact that a classical (and old) language like Tamil is given that contemporary touch by the constructive intrusions from languages like Hindi, Telugu, Greek, Italian, Persian and most importantly English (naduvula konjam uttaks naina). As a result, the language may sound uncivilized, from the point of view of the Madurai folks, who seemingly say 'Vaanga..ponga..' even before 'veesing' the 'veecharuvaa' and the Coimbatore folks who add this sickening slur to every statement... and in their obsession with pure Tamil curb the unfettered evolution of the language, thereby leading to little or no development of the language itself. For instance, words like 'bejaar','peela', 'saavu graaki' have no sense and no equivalents in the Southern dialects of tamil. Certainly an inexplicable loss to Tamil Language!

Now, really getting into the mechanics of the spoken language, the most important point is the relative position of the lips while speaking. While most tamil dialects involve a cavity of 2 inches between the lips,Madras tamil involves a much lesser gap (0.5 to 1.2 Inches). Mastering the exact position is half the language learnt.

Assuming we're using flash cards,
Card# 1. All words-more specifically, all verbs need to be consistently shortened adhering to a set of strict rules. padithidu(read), mudithidu(complete), sabithidu(curse) will be gracefully shortened as 'Pachchi', 'muchchi', 'sabchi'. Note the conversion of the syllable 'da' to 'cha'. This is essentially true for the entire gamut of emotions to be conveyed in Madras Tamil. 'kondirukkiren' is converted for simplicity to '...nikkeren'. As a corollary, 'padithu kondirukkiren' ' = 'pachchi-nikkeren' 'kulithu kondirukkiren' = 'kulchi-nikkeren'.

Readers can understand immediately that this was done to save time, so that in the same period of time a Madras Tamilar can convey 1.5 times that of a Madurai Tamilar and 5,000 times that of a Coimbatore Tamilar (depending on the length of the drawl...like 'yaeeeeeeenunga?') One anomaly to this shortening rule is, some words get suffixed with the syllable 'ka'. So, summa = summaka, dhoora = dhooraka.

Card# 2. Madras Tamil does not use 'neenga' and 'nee' in different contexts. In fact, only 'nee' is used. This is not a deliberate attempt to degrade someone in public, but to offer a level playing field for everyone. So if the auto-karan asks 'enga ponum, unakku?' do not feel offended.

Card# 3. 'da' is used by ALL IIT guys and ALL policemen for quite different reasons. The tone of 'ennada, license enga, vootlaya?' and 'what da, where is the Jantha, da?' are self-explanatory. Incidentally, all words beginning with 'vee' can be unconditionally substituted with 'voo'. So 'Veedu' = 'voodu' and 'Vittuvidu' = 'vuttudu'. Coming back to 'da', a euphemism for that would be 'ba'. So a 'ennada' would be made to sound much less offensive with 'ennaba'. Other less effective words, principally used among friends include 'naina','vaadhyaare', machi', 'berther'(brother), 'allo'(hello)... the list is endless. ***When it comes to expressing intimacy and friendship, Madras Tamil is the best in the world.***

Card# 4. 'enna'(what?) in Madras is 'yeenaa?'. So, combining quations (2) and (5), (sorry ba, 12th Maths madhiree aaychee) 'yeenaa pachchinikkera?', 'yeenaa kachinikkera?'.

Card# 5. The syllable 'zha'(as in tamizh) becomes 'ya'. So, 'vaazhai pazham' is 'vaaya payam', 'vaazhkai' is 'vaaykai', 'vazhukki' is 'vaykki'. More than 95% of Tamil Nadu substitutes it with 'ya' or 'la'.

Card# 6. When it comes to borrowing words from other languages 'Madrassukku nigar Madrasse'. English words can be used in any context without feeling alien. 'wrongu', 'rightu', 'yechusme' Madras Tamil - Worth Reading !!.ems 'adjist','abase', 'abscond', 'beetiful', 'super', 'fruitu', 'pil im', 'figureu' and so on. Hindi has its contributions like 'bejaar'. Telugu: 'naina', 'baava', 'eppudu', 'cheppu' etc.

Many such languages have their representations all of which cannot be listed here. Also singular and plurals in English are
inversed. So, even one lady becomes 'ladees', one friend becomes 'priends', a vegetable puff becomes 'puphs' etc.

Miscellany: Superlatives are mostly functions of time and fame. But some superlatives like 'Lord Labakdas' ,'Amrican
citizen', 'Columbus', 'pisthu', 'pistha' can be used at any time, anywhere, guaranteed. The etymology of these words are unknown.

Slangs are very important in Madras. Especially while drunk, during 'kozha adi sandai' and in the 'paal booth'. 'saavu graaki', 'somaari', 'kasmalum' can be used as and when required

Madras tamil vachikinu Poondhu vilayadu mamu...

My Friend

He was there for me, When I had to Hav him at my side.
He Laughed at my jokes, even though, it was not that laughable.
He cried for my griefs, even though, he wasnt directly affected.

He Priased me for nothing.
He Shared his feelings in watever way possible.
He Valued my friendship more than he had ever valued anything in his life.

He Never expected anything in return for his invaluable friendship.
He was pumping me up when i was down deep in dire strits.
He watched my every move and helped me go into the right path.

He was the right person when it came to revealing my news, be it a happy news or a bad one.
He made me feel younger and yet, stronger.
He had a Share of myself in HIM.

He cared for myself more than he cared for himself.
He asked for my presence to feel the strength of friendship, which noone ever had done.
He knew Watever i felt about him was True to my heart.

He is very far away frm me now,Yet not so far frm my Heart.

He was my friend, is my friend and will be MY FRIEND FOREVER.

Sweetie

I was on my way to my computer class at 2.00pm in the bus.She was smiling at me at will. She was so cute & innocent looking in her smile. It was a kinda nice feeling since noone had ever smiled me like that. For my part, though,i jus made a half-smile at her.

I was standing in the bus, as it was fully-loaded with ppl of all ages. But, she was comfortably placed in the ladies side of the bus.I wondered wat made her smile at me like that.I was praying God that she must not get down before i had to.God was always in favor of me.HE made that possible. She was in no hurry to get down, it seemed.

I was enjoying her smile at my side and was trying at the most to reciprocate her with my smiling back. Her smile was sweet and within my ownself i named her Sweetie

She was wearing a Rose-colored half-sleeved shirt, yet it never looked very exposed. She was a cute girl, no doubt. Her hair was curly and was dancing here & there with the wind that was blowing from outside thro the window of her seat.I was jus enjoying my short span with her, literally.

Then came that sad moment, God finally was getting tired to fulfill my wish. She was preparing herself to get down frm the bus, just before the stop where i was supposed to get down.

Her Mom took her in her arms and was straightening her Rose-Colored Half-sleeved Shirt. It seemed to me, that she was
watching her daugher & me.She finally was on her feet to get down and Sweetie was still in her arms.

She said to Sweetie, pointing at me ,"anna ku tata sollu"....

Sweetie waved her hands as if she was telling me "bye bye"

Eh !!! Weekend.....

These days when the work has reduced to 5-days a week in most of the Software & IT-enabled companies in india, its quite boring to feel that my company in indonesia still hanging on to the 5-1/2 day a week pattern. The 5 days of work wud normally run like a Alonso-driven F1 Car,whereas the saturday ( even if its a 1/2 day structure, i am used to stay in the office until 3 or 4 in the evening ) runs like our Hardworking MTC driver-driven Bus in Chennai.

Usually Weekends are very very speedy.I am used to spending my weekends at my friend's apartments. And, sunday mornings are always fixed for Cricket matches. Here, we hav got superb facilities.I am happy that, cricket, my passion is still a passion for me.I feel pity for my friends who, once were crazy about cricket, neither cud spend time to play cricket, nor they cud watch it live when its on live in T.V. I feel elated with the fact that i cud still see a lotta cricketing skills in me.

So, its another weekend beckons me."yeah yeah.. me coming... jus dont go away that speedily...... me catching u.... "

Mad'Ras

Though, I was born in the district of Thanjavur ( Sounds like the District of Columbia, huh ?!?! ), a tiny little town called Mayiladudhurai ( popularly known as Mayavaram ), where till now i had gone only twice if my memory serves me right, i hav got a fairly good enuf view about Chennai... I knew about Chennai right frm its days when it was called as "Madras", simply becos I hav been brought up there for almost 22 years.

I'd jus now been separated frm Madras ( I feel like Madras was like more of a name which finds place in everybody's tongue rather than "Chennai".. though, now everybody seems to be changing themselves to call our City, Chennai ) before 2 years or so.Yet, the Charm is still keeping its position in me.Although, the climate used to be unfairly Hot out there during the months of summer..I used to wonder, the word summer got its name frm its closely-related city-Madras or Jus becos Madras was Heat there existed a name "Summer". To sum it up, its rationale thinking.

This Blog's title isnt "Madras" but, its "Mad'Ras". It's got some meaning to it.I've never travelled to any other major cities in India. Not even to Bangalore, Hyd, or any other northern cities like Delhi or its western-counterpart Mumbai. But, hav visited Andhra a heaven lotta times since it was my father's native. So, it makes sense, that I am really Mad about Mad'Ras.

Madras has got its own Profile.Having stamped as the Southern Metropolitan of India, it's often tried to serve its purpose. It has developed a lot during the past decade. There seems to b a lotta differences every time i visit Madras after i'd come here.

Madras has got its own culture and its places.... Especially the Marina Beach. For record, i guess, its the Second largest beach in the whole world, only second to the Florida Beach in the US.That itself shows the kinda culture it holds...As for me, I, myself, hav seen some beaches in india & in here.During the Post-Tsumani period, hav gone to many beaches here in Indonesia. But, the fear of Tsumani was the most fearful aspect of such visits.

I really feel like missing a lot of Chennai----

  • its charm,
  • its climate ( huh, wat a heat ?!?! ),
  • the MTC Bus services,
  • the lingo ( ore bejaaaaaaara keedhu ba ....) and the people,
  • During Rainy seasons--the roads,
  • Not During Rainy seasons--the roads,
  • Cricket matches we used to play having the bet amount not higher than Rs.2/-,
  • a Ride in the bicycle to nowhere,
  • Travelling in the footboards of City buses not giving any kinda reaction to the yelling conductors, as if they were concerned about their own lives and not ours,
  • Having forced to go 4-bles ( like doubles or Triples, as it goes ) and carefully getting down at the signal point to avoid being caught by the Traffic Policeguys ( popularly known as "Mamas" ),
  • The khana-peena in hotels specially in the kaiyendhi bhavans,
  • IF cricket matches no-food,no-water literally like a sanyasi in front of the TV screen
and the list is endless..
Aint i Mad about Mad'Ras ???????? How about u ????

An Indonesian Handicap

A Couple of weeks ago, I started from my office early enough to watch the Ind Vs.Pak Encounter.Since, I dont hav a Facility at my home to watch any of the Indian Channels,I used to watch the Indian Programmes & Cricket matches, as such, at some of my friend's home, where there are Parabolas and Decoders to treat our eyes.

That saturday, was no different frm any of the other Cricket days.I started frm my office around 2 in the afternoon, by then, the Indian batting got over. So, we were hurrying to our friend's place which is about a 8-9 km drive frm my office.

The "Road-side beggars", mostly the ladies, having their infants in their arms, and youths in their teens, usually are in large numbers in Indonesian Road Signals. This particular thingys caught my attention whenever i passedby that signal.

Here, the normal practice is like, asking Wages for no-work.I've myself wondered a lotta times, guys placing themselves in the middle of the highways and showing the drivers of the BMWs and Benz's how to take a U-Turn as if but for their acts, the drivers dont know how to take the U-turn, and asking their usual Rp.1,000.And, the Chinese ppl, having stamped themselves as the main players of the Indonesian economy & its daily-changing goddamned culture, jus are happy to keep these young & energetic indonesians as wat they are, the road-side beggars-personified, wud encourage them not to work but make them happy with giving them the so-called minimum denomination of the Indonesian currency - Rp.1000.

And, there was this man, in his Thirties, with his hand paralyzed and i hav see him a lotta times, selling some water bottles in that traffic signal. He is certainly not of a beggar-cadre,Surprisingly.

As i said, I was on my way to my friend's place with two of my friends together in a Toyota-Kijang.We stopped ourselves in the Traffic Signal. and That man came at our side having kept his paralyzed hand down and raising the other with which he was selling the Water bottles.Since, Myself & my friend had walked abt 1/2 a km to reach for this my friend's car, we were really feeling thirsty and I asked my friend to get me a bottle of water. The friend who was on the wheel, opened the door and asked with that man a bottle of mineral water.

"Mas, mau satu bottle Aqua" ( Boss, need a water bottle ) said my friend.

"Yeah, pak.Ambil ini" ( yes sir. Here it is ) Replied tht man handing the bottle to my friend.

"Berapa Mas ???" ( how much is that??? )

"Satu seribu rupiah, pak" ( One bottle is Rp.1000)

"Oh.. ok mas.itu adalah lima Ribu rupiah.Tidak usah kembali.boleh peigang, pak." ( oh.. okie.. Here i give u Rp.5,000. No need for the change. u can keep it )

"Pak. Maaf pak.Kalau saya boleh ambil uang gratis, tidak usah jual Aqua, pak.Saya bisa kerja pak.Tuhan kasih dua tangan untuk saya.Satu saya udah kasih untuk Tuhan kembali.Terima kasih untuk beli Aqua, pak". ( Sir, very sorry. If i thought of begging, wat is the need for selling this Aqua bottles? I can work, sir.God had given me with two hands. And, i had given him back one.I dont wanna beg or steal for my survival.Thank you for buying the Aqua bottle. ) Saying that, he returned my friend with the balance Rp.4000.

Myself & my other friend were now staring to that friend who was driving. And, the next minute, We three were watching the man leave to the next car.

I made myself sure, Hard work never Dies even if there is a Handicap.

Me Atlast !!!

Its been quite a looooong time since i wrote a blog.... Only when one of my best friends woke me up, i realised, i shud write something to keep my momentum up about blogs.

Often,Boredom strikes me like hell.Being away frm the mother(land),it--refers to the boredom here--usually strikes double. I needed all my energy to keep it away frm myself.Unfortunately, the boredom Succeeds most of the times.Only when i play cricket during sundays, Or watching it live the cricket matches,Or during the time i listen to some of the mp3 songs i hav in my system or at home, i get over it.

Shall gather my everything to write something soon.As far as now, its no mean effort to re-enter to my own Blogs, i guess.
